SIGNIFICANT FORM: PAINTINGS OF CHOW CHUN-FAI

7 ~ 24 . 12 . 2005

Born in Hong Kong in 1980, CHOW Chun-fai is a well-established artist despite his young age. A tai-chi practitioner, Chow understands the concept of internal strength and revelation, a quality that permeates through his paintings. Graduated with multiple awards from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003, Chow is fond of street scenes and interiors with few recognizable signs. The absence of contextual information gives the viewer a timeless picture much like a snap shot or a scene in a movie. What CHOW intends to do is to redirect his audience to his brushwork and forms and, by adding sharp perspective to resemble a tunnel vision, presents a dramatic yet subtle image of a particular moment in time. Chow is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the Fine Arts Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
