Grotto Fine Art is proud to present Fiona Wong Lai-ching: Earthy Wings , the first solo exhibition of the acclaimed Hong Kong sculptor at Grotto Fine Art since 2004. Featuring a new series of works inspired by amphibious creature and medieval fantasy, Wong strives to explore the cultural sensitivity of desire and fantasy and their significance in our modern day environment. The exhibition features two types of works: amphibious costumes and hand-built pottery. Using a wide range of ceramic medium such as porcelain, terracotta and hybrid clay, Wong meticulously modeled her pieces according to a life size scale. Particular attention is paid to the works' intricate patterns and lightness and heaviness which imply strong cultural specifics and allegorical reference pertinent to the origin of the design. |
