Yan Tsun's works are based on two fundamental concepts: words and images.
Lau takes imprints of stone carvings and landscape scenery to form repetitive
images, then juxtapose with various types of calligraphic expressions.
The result is an integration of forms with a continuous interaction of
verbal and visual connotations. |

The works of Lau Yan Tsun are mostly finished in monochromatic tones with occasional color insertions. The works are considered collages as the artist combines photocopied papers and other ready-made materials on canvas. The deliberate layering and arrangement of the collages give the work a geometric orientation which, if perceived from a distance, seem like artificial fragments and suggest the passage of time. The combination of visual and verbal elements and a sense of transcendence therefore represent Lau's signature style. |
