WONG . WINDOW DREAMS 21
September to 7 October, 2004
Window
Dreams
marks the first collaboration between the acclaimed Hong Kong master
and Grotto. Featuring eighteen new works completed in 2004, the exhibition
presents Wong's latest creative venture into the world of ink and collage
on paper, combining graphic design elements and calligraphy upon a serene
traditional landscape backdrop. The title "Window Dreams"
suggests the urban scenery and city view of which the artist contemplates
through a window. Metaphorically, the window also serves as a refuge
to where Wong escapes in search of his own dream - utopia. Elements
inside this window such as geometric shapes, landscape and calligraphy
are all related to Wong's career and life experiences. In that sense,
Wong's window dreams are more self-reflective than subjective, with
the artist revealing himself rather than presenting his view.
