Grotto Fine Art is pleased to present In a trance, Scarlett Leung Tsz-yung’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, with an opening reception on Saturday, 12 September, from 2 to 6 pm. The exhibition runs from 12 September to 10 October 2026.

A graduate of Hong Kong Baptist University’s Academy of Visual Arts, Leung works in ink painting and tattoo, focusing on nature and the human body. The exhibition presents a new series of ink on paper, acrylic on wood panel, and lightbox installation works that take wood grain, growth rings and bodily contours as a single theme, marking a clear step from daily observation to a fully formed pictorial language. Her work finds a shared organic geometry in wood and skin, mapping growth, ring by ring, line by line.

Artist Bio

Scarlett Leung completed her Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2024. She focuses on ink painting and is also a tattoo artist. Her works mainly revolve around nature and the human body, tracing the vast, mysterious power of nature and the flow of life through small, everyday things. Her inspiration comes from what she observes and picks up during walks: twisted branches, stones full of patterns, withered leaves. She uses abstract ink lines to enlarge, twist and entwine these subtle textures, attempting to reveal their mystery and transformation, and to capture that fleeting sensation. As a tattoo artist, she inscribes lines drawn from nature onto the skin, turning the small human body into a vessel for nature, allowing the lines to flow naturally along muscles, veins and bodily contours. Whether in paintings or tattoos, her works seek to connect people and nature through a fluid aesthetic, creating a quiet yet powerful atmosphere. Her work is in the collection of Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, as well as various private collections.
