Scarlett Leung completed her Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University in
2024. She focuses on ink painting and is also a tattoo artist. Her works mainly revolve around
nature and the human body, tracing the vast, mysterious power of nature and the flow of life
through small, everyday things. Her inspiration comes from what she observes and picks up
during walks: twisted branches, stones full of patterns, withered leaves. She uses abstract ink
lines to enlarge, twist and entwine these subtle textures, attempting to reveal their mystery and
transformation, and to capture that fleeting sensation. As a tattoo artist, she inscribes lines drawn
from nature onto the skin, turning the small human body into a vessel for nature, allowing the
lines to flow naturally along muscles, veins and bodily contours. Whether in paintings or tattoos,
her works seek to connect people and nature through a fluid aesthetic, creating a quiet yet
powerful atmosphere. Her work is in the collection of Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, as well as
various private collections.

Driftwood

In our life's journey, we all find ourselves seated on our own pieces of driftwood, floating amidst the vast sea.
This series of works revolves around a driftwood encountered on a beach. The lines in the paintings capture the textures of the driftwood, the moment of floating in the sea and my encounter with it. Through the creation in various mediums, the artworks connect between the artwork and its organic origins. Soft light emanates from behind the paintings, evoking a tranquil atmosphere reminiscent of sunset. While appreciating the artworks, viewers can sit on the driftwood collected by the artist, immersing themselves in a moment that once belonged solely to nature.
That day, I sat on my driftwood, and I was captivated by the beauty of imperfection that found on the driftwood. The sun gradually descends, casting a gentle glow upon the water's surface, and the waves continue to rise and fall.
Even though drifting never stopped, that moment was peaceful, calm, and harmonious.
